These fourth graders have been creating their own poetry based on the ideas and styles of the famous poems that Miss Stretchberry makes Jack read.  Students have worked hard to find meaning and connections in these poems.  Then, they created their own words and proudly present them to you!  Check out the following activities. 

 

Activity 1:  …Just Make Short Lines….

 

Students found poems they could “fall in love with”. They found the meaning of their poem and wrote their thoughts about the poem. Students take their thoughts, write them down, and edit the thoughts to make short lines to create poetry.  Here is their finished product. 

 

Bang-clang

Funny word

O’flang, what a funny name.

Nailing nails all day,

Have to do.

Fine.

Charlie got a nail in his head,

Really, really sad.

Hurt

Keep working

Until you sleep

Man I would be tired.
