Needham Summer Update and Camp Info

Who can enroll? The program is for NDE students.  Camp sizes will be capped at 15 students for public health reasons, so please be aware that enrollment opportunities are limited.

When is summer programming? Camps will be happening throughout the weeks of July 20th through August 7th.  You will need to review the camp descriptions here.  Pay close attention to the dates and times for each camp.

What type of programming is being offered? Our incredible Needham staff has been busy creating camp style programs that will integrate core content (reading, writing, and math), as well as support students feeling welcome and safe back at school. Review the programs being offered on the attached flier.

How much does summer programming cost? It is free to all NDE families.

How many programs can I sign up for? Families can sign-up for multiple programs, as long as the dates and times do not conflict with each other.

How do I sign up? Clink on the link here to sign up and complete the initial enrollment form to indicate your interest.  Since enrollment is limited, a Needham staff member will reach out to you by Friday, July 10th, to confirm your enrollment in selected courses.

Who do I contact with questions? Email Laurie Rossback at lrossback@durangoschools.org if you have questions.

Additionally, I have been asked many questions about next year.

How will school be structured in the fall? Will kids be able to come back?

If the state and local health agencies allow, we will be returning to school on a traditional schedule with safety precautions in place.  According to an article in Chalkbeat Colorado, Governor Polis said, “He expects, ‘most schools” will be back to school ‘largely in a normal way’ this fall.” We are expecting to open school on August 25th, with in-person instruction.  Stay tuned for information in August, specific to class lists and the process for meeting the teacher!

If there is a local or state spike in COVID-19 infections, it is possible that health agencies could close schools again in the fall.  If this is our reality, our teachers have learned a great deal from reflection, along with parent and student feedback. Should the need arise, we are prepared to quickly stand up a quality home-based model until schools are reopened.

Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback, questions, and interest in summer programming!  Please continue to reach out with any questions or concerns, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Best,

Dr. Laurie Rossback
