Needham will be having Fall conferences on Monday 10/25 and Thursday 10/28 (as needed). Monday conferences will run from 1:00 - 5:30. Thursday conferences will run from 3:20 - 5:30. Teachers will be reaching out to schedule conferences next week. We have been given approval to host in-person conferences for those who feel comfortable doing so. If you are coming for in-person conferences, you and your children will need to be masked the entire time you are inside the building. Please make every effort to start and stop on time so that we don’t have too much overlap. If you would prefer to schedule conferences digitally, teachers can set up a Zoom for your designated time.
Charleston Wrap Fundraiser
The Charleston Wrap Fundraiser concludes Friday 10/15. Our school has raised nearly $3,000 thus far. Thanks to everyone who has supported Needham! I have had several inquiries regarding direct donations as not everyone is looking to purchase items. If you would like to make a direct donation to the school, you can write a check with a memo line for what you would like the funding to go toward. You can also go on the Durango School District website and click the online payments button. This will take you into a program called Revtrak where you can make direct donations to the school if you would prefer a digital option.
SAC & PTO
We had a fantastic PTO meeting on Wednesday where we discussed all the great ways PTO supports our school, staff and students. PTO meets the first Wednesday of every month. At this time, we are planning on hosting our next PTO meeting in-person (masks will be required). Please join us if you are available on 11/3 from 5:30 - 6:30 at Needham.
Our SAC (School Accountability Committee) meets quarterly to discuss school data, instructional practices, and to provide community feedback. Kristin Cramer, our Assistant Principal, has taken on SAC for the year. The first SAC meeting of the year will take place on 10/12 from 3:30 to 4:30. Please contact Mrs. Cramer, at email@example.com, if you would like to participate.

Costumes for Halloween
Halloween is coming up at the end of the month. We recognize that some families celebrate this holiday by dressing up, and others choose to abstain from this holiday altogether. With this in mind, we will not be hosting Halloween parties at our school, but students may come to school in costume on 10/29 (the Friday before Halloween) if they would like to. Please make sure costumes are school appropriate and that they follow our dress code policies. Students will be required to wear an adequate face covering even if their costume is inclusive of a costume mask.
Spotlight on 5th Grade Learning with Bri Dilley, Needham’s Instructional Coach
Note from Riley Alderton: This is a new feature I will be including in newsletters. At Needham, we are fortunate to have a strong partnership with our Instructional Coach, Bri Dilley, who works in classrooms and with teachers to integrate best practices, as well as to help teachers refine their thinking and planning. In each newsletter, Bri will be providing a short blurb about some of the fantastic work she is seeing in her support of our Needham teaching teams. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into our daily instruction!
Tiffany Miera and Sarah Pinkerton have been intentionally planning cross-curricular lessons so that their students are receiving literacy throughout the day. Tiffany Miera is also integrating math into science lessons in order to dig deeper into mathematical concepts. This team is using multiple thinking routines from Harvard’s Project Zero to make student thinking visible and to have consistency for their students when they transition classrooms. Thanks for keeping students at the heart of your planning and ensuring that they are thinking at high levels!
